This meeting takes place every Wednesday at 10:00 AM.  Members of the Heart Exchange generally attend the Transplant Support group meetings chaired by St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital. 

 
EVERY MONTH - SECOND SATURDAY

This social takes place at 7:00 PM and is open to anyone; those anticipating surgery, any of their family members or friends, or anyone that would like to learn more about transplants and assist devices. While our emphasis is on heart transplants, many of our members have had other organ transplants such as lungs, liver and kidneys. The social is free of charge and we provide refreshments. Here you will meet:
  • People like you.
  • People that have been where you are!
  • People that can answer your questions about their heart transplant experiences. 

 

HEART EXCHANGE GOLF CLASSIC  - MONDAY 09/13/10

The Heart Exchange Golf Classic is the primary source of funding and allows the Heart Exchange to fulfill its mission to offer support to transplant patients and their families through the oftentimes costly and difficult wait and then recovery from transplant. 

Heart Exchange members have faced the trials of transplant.  Having received a second chance at life, they have the empathy and the experience to help in a variety of ways.  Through the funds generated by participants and sponsors of the annual golf tournament, the Heart Exchange is able to assist many patients financially.

  • Christmas Luncheon for the transplant nurses at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital

  • Nurses' Appreciation Day at the hospital
  • Holiday patient visitations
  • Donor appreciation events

The Heart Exchange provides makes contributions to the Hospitality House and makes limited contribution for housing assistance for transplanted patients as they recover. Indirectly, patients also benefit from funds provided to the Texas Heart Institute for facility expansion and to transplant nurses for specialized training. 

Aside from the financial aid, the Heart Exchange also invests in efforts to spread the word about the critical need to consider organ donation.  With the waiting list continually growing and about 17 people dying daily in this country increasing donor awareness is a real priority. 

Businesses, organizations and benefactors support the Golf Classic by sponsoring teams to compete in the classic or by providing donations in other ways.
